Wapello Fire and Rescue Honors Members of the Year for 2016
Wed. Mar 1st 2017

Wapello Fire and Rescue recognized two of our members for their outstanding service. Every year the Fire Chief, First Assistant and Second Assistant choose two members that have made significant contributions to our organization. These members are selected from our roster of active full-time members and the categories are Firefighter of the Year and Emergency Medical Provider of the Year. These selections are not easy ones to make for our chief officers as we have many members that make wonderful contributions. Our department responds to 350-400 calls annually so our members continue to have an impact on many lives.

The Firefighter of the Year for 2016 is Brad Quigley. Brad returned to our department in 2015 after previously serving in the 1980’s. Brad immediately took an active role in the organization serving on several committees including the new fire station committee and fire prevention committee to name a couple. Brad handles many of the day-to-day behind the scenes tasks which keep the department running smoothly. These tasks are not glorious but are some of the most important with respect to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our equipment. Brad currently serves as the department secretary and has been active in grant writing for our organization. He recently completed his emergency medical technician training program which included approximately 200 hours of classroom instruction. He is active in the community volunteering for the Wapello Ambulance and Hometown Pride Committee as well as serving as a Louisa County Supervisor. Brad is retired from Grain Processing Corporation. He owns Backyard Buildings and More and Backyard Properties in Wapello.

The Emergency Medical Provider of the Year is Adam Parsons. Adam also joined our department in 2015. He immediately expressed interest in obtaining emergency medical certification and enrolled in an EMT class that concluded in May of 2016. After approximately 200 hours of classroom and clinical instruction, Adam successfully completed the written and practical examinations and obtained national certification. Adam quickly gained confidence as an EMS provider and is willing to jump right in to provide quality patient care. He plays a vital role in our department as emergency medical calls become a larger portion of our department’s activity each year. Adam previously served on the Wapello City Council and works as the Louisa County Attorney in addition to being a dedicated family man.

Please join us in congratulating Brad and Adam! Thank you for your service to our community gentlemen.
